The most significant scares in Hello Neighbor 2 occur if players go off the correct path or stray outside the barriers of the town. However, the new inventory system is less than intuitive and could be made somewhat less clunky for maximum usability and improvement over the first game.ĭespite being considered a horror game, Hello Neighbor 2 is frankly lacking memorable, viral horror elements. Additionally, the new inventory system, which gives players a bag that holds and allows them to cycle through objects and tools they pick up, is useful for keeping organized. Carried and thrown objects also have some weight behind them. The physics are still a bit floaty, but the player character does have some weight when climbing and falling from great heights. The cartoon appearance of the town and its residents looks more stylized than in the original game, and the lighting and shadows are quite nice to look at. The graphics quality has clearly improved since the first Hello Neighbor.
In a few places, Hello Neighbor 2 vastly improves upon the original. For example, if players are frequently climbing through the same window, it may be boarded up or otherwise trapped the next time they try to use it, or they may be caught because an NPC chooses to take a new, shorter route the player wasn't expecting. In Hello Neighbor 2, the same advanced AI also controls other residents players will need to navigate around, like the woodworking neighbor or the police officers.

Unfortunately, Hello Neighbor 2 suffers from many of the same problems as its predecessor and isn't quite as strong an example of a good horror video game as other recently released, family-friendly offerings. While it amassed a decent fanbase from its early alphas, it received less than favorable reviews from both fans and critics, who pointed out the difficulty of the puzzles, the lack of understandable physics, the odd stealth mechanics, the glitches, and the low number of actual scares. The first installment of the Hello Neighbor series was met with mixed reviews.
